In the last four years, the Internet has doubled and it does not appear to be slowing down. At the beginning of 2007, there were over 120 million domain names registered and over 1.1 billion Internet users. As this growth continues, it is harder and harder for users to find what they are looking for. Because of this, we believe that users will migrate away from general purpose sites to more specialized sites that are designed specifically for that topic.
Direct Search, (also called Direct Navigation) or type-in traffic is the term used to describe the act of searching for information through the address bar instead of within a search tool. An increasing number of users are searching this way, creating a $1 billion advertising market. And since the traffic quality from direct search (PDF, see page 6) exceeds that of general-purpose search, we believe the market will continue to grow as advertising dollars move from offline media to online media.
Despite the incredible growth in the Direct Search space, we believe the market is still in the early stages of development. While many domain portfolios are highly profitable, they have only begun to build out their sites into highly targeted web properties. And despite the incredible success of search engines, most users still struggle to find the information that they are looking for.
Our mission is to build niche media properties that help users find relevant information and connects them to advertisers. We focus on developing properties that generate organic traffic either through Direct Search or through Search Engine Optimization. Each month, our network of web properties generates over 60,000,000 unique users.
